The Staff
Runa
Hanaghan
Veterinary Surgeon
Originally from Dublin, Runa
moved away at an early age but returned to work in Monaghan
when her parents moved to the West in 2001. Runa qualified
from Bristol University in the UK in 1997 and has worked
in various practices since then. Having spent 5 months
travelling in 2003 she decided to set up a clinic, and
Ballyvary seemed the ideal choice! Runas main interests
include surgery and diagnostics such as ultrasound and
x-ray. Outside work she is kept busy with horse-riding
and has only recently taken up surfing which is proving
a challenge! You can also find Runa out on the mountains
around Connemara with local hill walking clubs.
Elisha
Fahy Head Veterinary Nurse
Originally from Ballina, Elisha has been with the practice
from the very beginning, helping with painting and construction
in the frantic weeks prior to opening. Elisha qualified
as a veterinary nurse with the RCVS and has been a huge
support in the first year of opening. Thanks to her we
have our internet site! Alongside her nursing Elisha also
does grooming within the practice and has built up quite
a following. She has been busy in recent years and has
been to the UK to further qualify in behaviour and training
for companion animals.
Sharon
Hughes Veterinary Assistant and UCD Veterinary
Student
Sharon has been with us for the Summer of 2008 and has
returned now to help within the clinic and gain experience
as part of her UCD veterinary course. She has been involved
in our cat neutering projects in the clinic in association
with the Mayo Cat Rescue and other veterinary students
from UCD. Sharon is a much sought after gaelic football
player and also enjoys horse-riding in her spare time.
Sue
Hanaghan Veterinary Receptionist
Sue is Runas mother and has been a huge help in
setting up and running the clinic in Ballyvary. Having
worked in the DSPCA and had contact with animals all her
life she has been fantastic at stepping in where help
is needed. Sue is a working sheep farmer in Glenhest and
covers the days when any of the nurses are on leave for
further education or holidays.
Biscuit
the dog:
Is our general day-to-day helper and loves to meet
and greet at the reception desk whenever she gets
the chance she is also very important at our local
school visits where she demonstrates tooth brushing and
the general care of pets.

Mairead has started to help us out over the summer of
2009 and has recently returned from working in small animal
practices in Dublin.
We

different colleges around Ireland and you may see a different
face at reception when this is the case they are busy
learning and we allow them quite a bit of responsibility within
the clinic so they are learning on the job with strict supervision.
